Involving Specialist Support |
What specialist services and expertise are available at or are accessed by Cumberland Infant School? Specialist involvement is sought where a child’s needs are felt to be significant and they have not responded to interventions already put in place by the school. We would always seek parental agreement and involvement should any outside agency need to be consulted. Outside Agencies include, Occupational Therapy, the Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapy, the Multi-Agency Behaviour Support Team, the School Nurse or any others we think relevant in supporting your child. We will ask the specialist to carry out specific assessments or undertake classroom observations in order to advise the school on how best to support the child. Parents/carers are invited into the school, usually on the day of the assessment, to get feedback on the specialist’s findings, to ask questions or to request further information. After the meeting the school will implement the specialist’s recommendations, follow support programmes or buy recommended resources. Copies of any reports sent to the school will also be sent to the parents/carers. Follow-up meetings with the specialist or the parents/carers are set up as needed. These meetings can be at the request of the parents/carers or arranged by the school. The school uses the Local Authority and Health Service agencies with the exception of our Educational Psychologist (EP). The Southsea Cluster of schools employs Mrs Kerry Jackson as our EP, who is based at Priory Secondary School. |
