How does Cumberland Infant School know if children need extra help?

Some children will come to school with additional needs already identified. At Cumberland we liaise with a child’s pre-school or previous school so that we are aware of what support is already in place or any concerns there may be.

All children’s progress is regularly monitored and tracked by their class teacher. Additionally, termly meetings are held with the class teacher and Head teacher to discuss pupil progress.

We use our teacher assessments to identify any additional needs and, if appropriate, the class teacher, Inclusion Leader or Head teacher will arrange for additional support to be provided.

What can I do if I feel my child has special educational need?

Staff are always around at the end of the day to have a quick informal chat, about any concerns.

Parents are also welcome to make appointments to talk at greater length to the class teacher either before or after school.

We also hold parent consultation evenings twice a year, where any concerns or questions can be raised.
