Facts about Attendance
Regular attendance at school is vital to ensure that children make good progress, extend their social skills and develop a work ethic that they will need for future employment, therefore, at Cumberland, we make every effort to ensure that children have good attendance and are at school on time. Research shows that getting into good habits in the early years of schooling has a real impact on children's attitudes to attendance as they move to junior and senior schools.
To promote good attendance at Cumberland we provide an education that brings out the best in every child, builds on their strengths, enables them to develop a love of learning, and helps them to grow into confident and independent citizens, valued for the contribution they make. We encourage and support the involvement of each child in their own learning and aim to ensure that school provides an interesting, stimulating and motivating environment.
Attendance and Punctuality
90% attendance = ½ day missed every week
1 school year at 90% = 4 whole weeks of lessons missed!!
10 years at school at 90% = a year of school missed
Getting to school on time
5 minutes late every day = 3 days lost each year
15 minutes late every day = 2 weeks lost each year
30 minutes late every day = 1 whole month lost each year
Being late or absent disrupts your child’s education
To promote good attendance Cumberland we:
* give stickers to those children who have been to school and on time every day that week.
* give certificates at the end of each term to children with 100% attendance.
* give £10 book voucher to children with 100% attendance for the year.
* present the F.A. Cup to the class with the best attendance that week.
We send out letters congratulating the parents and children on attendance above 95% at the end of each term and warning letters to parents if their child's attendance is below 95%.
