Who was to blame for the Great Fire of London? Why did so many people lose their lives when the Titanic struck an iceberg? Who was Neil Armstrong? How was life different during medieval times? These are just some of the exciting questions that spark curiosity and inspire our children to investigate the past. Through history, they develop an understanding of how people, events, and discoveries have shaped the world we live in today. 

As historians, children apply their Thinking skills to ask questions, investigate evidence, and develop an understanding of their place within the context of time. Our History curriculum encourages children to become curious about the past, make comparisons with the present, and understand how historical events continue to influence our lives today. We aim to inspire a lifelong love of history through memorable learning experiences that create a real sense of WOW. 

Throughout their learning, children develop knowledge of significant historical people, events, and periods. They discover how the world has changed over time and begin to understand how learning from the past can help shape a better future. 

Learning is brought to life through exciting educational visits, including trips to the SeaCity Museum in Southampton, where children explore the story of the Titanic, and visit Portchester Castle, where they experience history first-hand and deepen their understanding of significant events and periods. Through assemblies, children also learn about inspirational historical and contemporary figures who have made a positive impact on our local community and the wider world. These people are linked to our school values of Care, Inspire, and Succeed, encouraging children to recognise the difference one person can make.
