Welcome to Cumberland

The children have settled into life at Cumberland amazingly. We are embarking on a project that helps us to understand how we are now a part of the Cumberland Community. The project saw us start with our teachers setting up a house and it's furniture but there was a problem. They got it all wrong! They put the bath in the bedroom and the cooker in the lounge. We talked about where these items belong and why they belong there.

We are learning that we now all belong together as part of Cumberland Infant School and how some of us belong in the Jellyfish class and some in the Seals class.

Project Overview

In this project the children will:
  • Learn about the concept of belonging and what it means.
  • Begin to understand what 'belonging' to Cumberland Infant School means through our ethos and Learning Values.
  • Have opportunities to talk about where they belong. E.g. families, with friends, school, clubs such as swimming and football.
  • Learn that different people belong to different families and faiths.
  • Have opportunities to think about and discuss how belonging makes us feel and if it is important to feel a sense of belonging.

Home Learning

To help with this, it would be great if you were able to support by providing photos of where your children belong such as a picture of their family or clubs that they may be a part of such as dancing, football etc. A photo can either be sent into school or uploaded onto Tapestry. We will look at the photos and talk about them in class during next week. (If sending a photo into school could you please put this into a named envelope.) Please send photos in by Friday 18th September.
